First Day Envelopes
Event day covers are stamped envelope or postcards, sometimes another form of postal material that is processed at the post office that created the issue. This will include a cancellation postmark that denotes the location and sometimes will have special text added to it to further denote the post office location and/or the stamp on the material itself. These are usually issued during special events, hence their name. Such events could include museum openings, marine ship launchings, and even sometimes sports arena openings.
As we showed you before concerning first day covers and envelopes, there can be a cachet included with the issue. These cachets are usually created by commercial artist, but sometimes these can be made by a local artists as well. The cachet will be an artwork depicting the stamp's focus and adds to the level of collectibility and value for any collection of stamps and especially first day issues.
